Kinderhook, NY – Congressman John Faso (R-Kinderhook) today praised the U.S. Senate’s passage of two critical pieces of bipartisan veterans legislation that previously passed in the House. “Last night the Senate moved our nation’s veterans’ care a step in the right direction by passing the House-passed legislation, the Veterans Appeal Improvement and Modernization Act and the Harry W. Colmery Veterans Educational Assistance Act,” said Faso. “The first piece of legislation addresses the VA’s brok... Read more

“The recent failure of the Senate to advance its healthcare bill underscores the need for incremental, bipartisan reforms that will lower the costs of healthcare for families and individuals and put our nation’s healthcare system on a path to fiscal sustainability. I am working as part of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus to initiate reforms which can fix problems with the individual insurance market.” Read more

"Rather than petulantly threatening to raise taxes on overburdened New Yorkers, Mr. Cuomo should instead cut waste in his own $160 billion budget. High among these items are hundreds of millions each year doled out in special interest favors and side deals to favored groups. Medicaid is intended to help the disabled, the poor and the elderly, but in Cuomo’s New York fully one-third of our population is on this system. Cuomo is driving people from Upstate New York because of high taxes. Instead of supporting our efforts he threatens additional tax increases because he can’t bring his own budget under control. Cuomo spends more on Medicaid than Texas and Florida combined and those states have more than twice New York’s population. Our amendment finally fixes Albany’s 50-year-old mistake of imposing part of these costs on property taxpayers." Read more

“For decades, Albany’s Medicaid mandate and resulting property taxes have burdened New Yorkers unlike in any other state. What we’ve got to show for this scheme is people fleeing our state in droves, businesses relocating, and crushing and often unpayable bills for those who stay behind” Read more

It's time to set the record straight on the American Health Care Act (AHCA). From the start of this process, I have stated that the responsible path forward includes keeping what works in the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and fixing what doesn't. The ACA is collapsing. Premiums rose an average of 25 percent this year for patients on the healthcare exchanges. Deductibles will average more than $6,000 in 2017 for those in the ACA's lowest-priced plans. A total of 4.7 million Americans have been kicked... Read more

Washington, D.C. – Congressman John Faso (R-Kinderhook) today issued the following statement after passage of the American Health Care Act (H.R. 1628): “The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has failed in its promises to the American people. From the start of this process, I have stated that the responsible path forward includes keeping what works and fixing what doesn’t. The ACA as it stands now will collapse under its own weight if nothing is done, imperiling millions of Americans through higher premi... Read more

Washington, D.C. – Congressman John Faso (NY-19) and Congressman Chris Collins (NY-27) today issued the following statements in response to Governor Andrew Cuomo’s claims against the American Health Care Act: “There he goes again. Mr. Cuomo continues to mislead on the legislation to relieve property taxpayers of this Medicaid burden. He uses fake numbers in an effort to scare hospitals and health providers as to 'cuts' in Medicaid spending, when Albany could achieve savings by reducing other spe... Read more

Washington, D.C. – Congressman John Faso (R-Kinderhook) today issued the following statement after the decision to pull the American Health Care Act (AHCA) from floor consideration: “Since the start of this process, I have said that we must keep what works in the current healthcare system and fix what doesn’t. Pulling the legislation from the floor reveals that there is no Republican consensus on replacement of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). As such, it is incumbent upon those of us in Congress ... “Governor Cuomo falsely represents the choices the state will face if the AHCA legislation is enacted. The vast majority of states in the nation don’t force property taxpayers to pay a portion of the state’s cost of Medicaid. Localities across the nation are responsible for just over $9 billion in Medicaid with over $7 billion of that cost borne by local taxpayers in New York State. This shows how out of line New York is in this regard. Mr. Cuomo has also forgotten that Governor Mario Cuomo made... Read more
