Washington D.C. – Congressman John Faso (R-Kinderhook) today announced a federal investment award to the Town of Wawarsing in Ulster County to upgrade wastewater treatment operations. The funding will be used to upgrade the wastewater treatment facility of the Kerhonkson Sewer District.

“This project represents the culmination of a 12-year effort to overhaul the water-sewer of Kerhonkson, NY. The federal grant and loans received have been absolutely essential in making this happen. With the recently awarded loan, the town of Warwarsing will provide quality sewer to Kerhonkson while protecting the environment.” – Town of Wawarsing Supervisor Terry Houck

“This funding is critical in helping the town of Wawarsing ensure that wastewater is properly treated,” said Faso. “If this project is not completed, the treatment facility of the Kerhonkson Sewer District will still only have one activated sludge and clarifier unit. If that one unit fails, the facility will be unable to treat any wastewater.”

This investment will be a federal loan to cover the remaining cost of this project after additional federal assistance was awarded earlier this year. The project is estimated to cost $1,363,000 and the federal assistance from earlier this year is for $998,000. There are 242 residential and 112 other users who will benefit from the completion of this project.

For the past two years, Congressman Faso has joined colleagues from both sides of the aisle to formally advocate in support of funding for the Rural Water and Waste Disposal Program before the House Appropriations Committee.
