Washington, D.C. – Congressman Faso (R-Kinderhook) today announced a federal grant award to SUNY Ulster made by the U.S. Department of Education through the Strengthening Institutions Program. SUNY Ulster will receive $433,094 in federal funding to improve their capacity to better serve low-income students by increasing access to student services, enhancing their ability to identify at-risk students, and bolstering advising programs.

“SUNY Ulster continues to provide a vital service to countless members of the Hudson Valley community: access to an affordable and dynamic education,” said Congressman John Faso. “This significant funding will help the college to identify and more effectively assist low-income and at-risk students, which will improve the services offered at the college and put these students on a better pathway to success.”

“This project will systematically change the way SUNY Ulster interacts with our most vulnerable students to strengthen student engagement and increase success, as measured by an increase in course completion and retention rates.  Funds will be used to implement strategies to increase access to student services and build information management support systems and processes, while simultaneously offering mini-grants to faculty and staff for development opportunities,” said college president, Dr. Alan P. Roberts.
