Washington, D.C. – This year marks the 35th annual Congressional Art Competition. The nationwide high school art contest encourages students from across America to showcase their artistic talents.

More than 650,000 high school students have participated since the competition’s inception. It is a great way for students from each of the nation’s 435 congressional districts and US territories to compete to join the ranks of other artists whose works have graced the Capitol. Congressman John Faso (R-Kinderhook) highly encourages his young constituents to get involved and participate.

“Our district is rich in art history and culture,” said Congressman Faso. “This is a fantastic opportunity for budding young artists to showcase their talents and perfect their craft.”

Interested participants must submit their artwork to one of Congressman Faso’s district offices by Friday, May 5, 2017, by 5:00 p.m. Students may only submit one original entry no larger than 26 by 26 by 4 inches, including the frame. Paintings, drawings, watercolors, pastels, mixed media, collages, photography or prints may be submitted.

The winner, in addition to having his or her artwork displayed in the Capitol, will also be provided with two roundtrip tickets to attend the opening ceremonies of the art exhibit in Washington, D.C., including a luncheon in their honor.
