H.R. 1695 – Register of Copyrights Selection and Accountability Act of 2017
Congress often relies upon the United States Copyright Office to provide important policy research and assistance. This office is overseen by the Register of Copyrights. This legislation provides more transparency and accountability in the process to nominate and select a Register of Copyrights. This new approach is in line with my efforts to make government more open and more thoughtful. For this reason, I supported this legislation.
This bill passed the House with wide bipartisan support, 378-48.
H.R. 1694 – Fannie and Freddie Open Records Act of 2017
I voted in support of H.R. 1694 - the Fannie and Freddie Open Records Act of 2017. This bill works to ensure that the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae) and Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac) are subject to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests when under government conservatorship. By subjecting Fannie and Freddie to Freedom of Information Act laws, we can increase transparency and accountability for taxpayers.
This bill passed the House with wide bipartisan support, 425 – 0.
H.J.Res. 99 - Making further continuing appropriations for fiscal year 2017, and for other purposes.
I voted in support of H.J.Res. 99, which was a temporary continuing resolution to fund the federal government. It is expected that next week we will pass appropriations that will fund the government through the end of the fiscal year and prevent a government shutdown. I am continuing my Budget Committee work to address next year’s budget and the long-term fiscal deficits which imperil US financial stability in the future.
This bill passed with broad bipartisan support, 382-30.
